Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Will anything happen to my original photos during the restoration or enhancement process?

A: All original photos will be electronically scanned into a computer, which has no effect on the photo and causes absolutely no damage.

Q: Will you have to cut up the photos to make the collage?

A: No photos are ever cut to create a collage. As mentioned above all photos are electronically scanned into a computer and altered by the computer.

Q: If I want a retirement collage can you include a company name and/or logo in the print.

A: Yes. Simply provide a photograph or copy of the company logo and tell us if you want it in a specific location on the collage.

Q: How long does it take to complete the work?

A: That varies depending on the amount of restoration work required to each photo and how many photos are being restored. Typically five or fewer photos can be restored and printed (sizes up to 8" x 10") in approximately 5 to 7 working days. Some orders may be completed in less time.

Q: Can you change the size of the print from the original size?

A: Yes, in most cases the final print size can be increased. However, if the original photograph is blurry, the larger you print the final copy the more noticeable the blur. Typical print sizes can be (wallet, 4" x 6", 5" x 7", 8" x 10", 8" x 12", 11" x 14", and 16" x 20", etc. ). NOTE: You may also choose to have one large print (i.e. 16" x 20") and one or more smaller size prints (i.e. 8" x 10"). Click here for pricing of reprints.

Q: How will I know what the fee is for the project?

A: General pricing is available in the pricing section of this web site. However, for custom work and/or restoration the fees may vary. We will e-mail the estimated fee for all work prior to beginning any project. Your return e-mail confirmation will provide us approval to begin the job. If you choose not to accept the quote your photos and all associated material will be returned. Fifty percent of the project fee is due at time of approval and fifty percent upon completion. Reprints and/or additional copies of any photographs will be available via the web.

Q: How do I order and/or pay for the additional prints?

A: After the work is completed, you will be emailed a notification and a web address that you can link to, to purchase as many copies/sizes as you desire. The photographs can be printed in either glossy, matte, or pro-Luster finish and will be mailed directly to your home. Click here for pricing of reprints.

Q: How should I send the photos to you?

A: Place the photographs in envelopes taking care to protect them between sheets of rigid cardboard to prevent any damage. You may even wish to place them in a zip-lock bag with a piece of paper separating individual photographs. Write "DO NOT BEND, Photographs Inside" on the outside of the shipping container. It is always best to use a reputable carrier that can track their shipments, such as FedEx, UPS, DHL, and/or USPS Certified Mail. That will enable you to keep track of where your photos are at any given time. We are not responsible for lost or stolen photographs enroute to or from the company.

Q: What type of information do you need when I send the photos?

A: Please provide the following:

    • Your name, mailing address, e-mail address (if applicable), telephone number.
    • Detailed instructions regarding what you want done to the photograph(s) regarding restoration.
    • What you want added or removed from the enhanced photograph(s).
    • Indicate specific, desired size(s) and quantity of final print(s).
    • Indicate print type (Color, Black & White, or Sepia).
    • If requesting a photo collage, indicate which portions of the photos you want and the order in which you want them on the final print.
      • Consider numbering the back of the photos with the order you want them in the final print, like the hands of a clock.
      • Choose and identify the single photo you want in the center of the collage.

Q: Can I see the work before it is printed?

A: A l ow resolution copy of your project will be available for viewing on this web site. You will receive an email informing you when you can view the photograph. If any changes are needed, please document, specifically what you want done and e-mail it back before the final print is completed.

Q: How will you return the original photos to me?

A: All original photos will be shipped to the client via UPS. A small shipping & handling fee is charged for ALL orders. All additional print orders must be placed and paid for via the web.

Q: What happens if after you receive the photos you decide you can't restore them?

A: All photographs and associated material will be returned with a brief explanation of why the project could not be restored or enhanced.

Q: If my original photograph is torn in two or more pieces can you restore it?

A: Maybe. If the tears are clean, they may be repairable. However, if the original is extremely old and/or fragile please do not send it via the mail. If your are not sure just e-mail specific questions detailing your concerns for a free quote before mailing any photograph(s).

Q:
Can I send photographic negatives for repair?

A: Unfortunately no. If you have a damaged negative your local photo store (Wolf, Ritz, etc.) may be able to restore them for you.

Q: If I have several photographs of the same subject can you take pieces from one to restore another?

A: Typically, yes, the more photographs you can provide the better the chances of restoring the damaged photo. A final answer will be emailed to you as soon as an evaluation is completed.

Q: Can you create a collage of pets?

A: Absolutely. As long as you provide an adequate number of photographs and a detailed description of how you want the final print laid out.

Q: How many photos should be used to create a collage?

A: The subject matter can make a big difference in this. Typically most collages range from 5 to 12 different photographs. (See samples). NOTE: Collages can be created with more photographs, however the uniqueness may suffer resulting in a somewhat cluttered appearance. Each project can be evaluated prior to beginning the work.

Q: May I mix color and black & white photographs in a collage?

A: You may, but the final product does not look as appealing as one where all the photographs are the same color. NOTE: If you have mostly Black & White photographs and a few in color it is best to change the color photographs to black and white.

Q: Who owns the sports photographs that you take for general sale or magazine covers?

A: Unless otherwise discussed/specified and agreed to in a personal contractual agreement, all photographs and rights to enlargement and reprints will remain the property of J. Christo | PHOTOGRAPHY.

Q: Can you convert color photographs into Black & White or Sepia prints.

A: Absolutely, we can easily convert color photos to Black & White as well as converting the entire collage to sepia or another duotone color. (See samples).
